Covenant GroupsCovenant groups are a way to deepen our spiritual resources, explore bedrock questions of life and faith, and make us better able to fulfill our mission in the world as a liberal religious presence. In this time when peoples' lives are rushed and fragmented, being a part of a small, committed group in which you come to be known and to know others well can be transformational. This is the overarching purpose of covenant groups. Ongoing groups of up to ten people, high school age and up, meet once a month for two hours of focused conversation on themes developed by the Covenant Curriculum Committee and our minister. Each group has a facilitator or two. The facilitators are trained by the minister and meet with the minister in their own Covenant Group. Currently there are six ongoing groups. Anyone interested in joining a group should contact Rev. Barbara Pescan, 847-864-1330. Existing groups may have openings and new groups are formed as numbers warrant. This year, the Covenant Group program has added a new format, offering Groups that are set to last six months in addition to the already existing groups which have no formal "sunset." . Using the template of the small group ministries of the Des Moines, Iowa congregation, and its motto, “Making meaningful connections, ten people at a time,” these short-term groups will provide the opportunity to meet and reflect on bedrock religious issues twice a month for six months. If you would like to be a facilitator for six months, or attend, let Rev. Pescan know. The Covenant Group program is being coordinated by our new Membership Director Eileen Wiviott, with the assistance and support of Eleanor Boyer, who has held the role of coordinator for some time.
