Unitarian Church of Evanston

Green Sanctuary

Events:

Evanston faces an important ballot referendum on March 20. Residents will decide whether to join twenty two other communities across the state in aggregating their electric power purchasing for greater value. Consumer Choice Aggregation (CGA) would drive down the cost of electricity, including renewables like wind and solar, by leveraging the power of twenty thousand plus consumers to drive down the cost per kWh. I’ve attached a fact sheet for your review. Please consider visiting the city’s website when you have the chance –

and learn more about CGA and renewable energy here –

You can also join Citizen’s Greener Evanston this Wednesday to learn more about CGA at our Monthly Green Drinks program, hosted at the Firehouse Grill at Chicago and Kedzie in Evanston –

The UCE Green Sanctuary Committee was started in 2003 with the expressed purpose of applying for and obtaining Green Sanctuary status from the UUA Ministry for Earth. As part of gaining Green Sanctuary status, we surveyed church life and environs to identify areas in which we can improve our stewardship such as recycling, energy use, indoor environmental quality, and materials selection. In May of 2005, after two year’s work, we became the 24th U.S. Green Sanctuary congregation. Green Sanctuary works not only to bring awareness of ecologically helpful practices to fellow UCE’ers, but also to advocate for environmental issues. Further, Green Sanctuary will help you get out into the community to improve its ecological sustainability. The Green Sanctuary committee meets 2nd Sundays of the month from 8:45 – 10:15 am. For more information and to get on the Green Sanctuary email list, contact Dick Whitaker at dwhitaker4@comcast.net.
