The Music Program at UCE UCE Choir The choir presents music of diverse styles and traditions, both a capella and accompanied by assorted instrumental combinations. Regular rehearsals encompass vocal and choral technique, as well as insights into the interpretation and theory of music. The choir welcomes singers of all abilities, who can, at minimum, carry a tune and match pitch with a choral section. Music Makers UCE's Music Makers Class is an exploration of music in a joyous, fun environment for children, kindergarten through grade 2 (ages 5-8). Musical concepts are taught through singing, playing, rhythm games, creative movement, and improvisation. Parent participation is encouraged and enjoyed by all! Jazz Brunch UCE member Karl Montzka and his ensemble of Chicago’s fine jazz musicians present a spectacular annual event, a Sunday service with catered lunch. Drums, Bells, Orff! Learn to play and improvise on traditional African and Latin drums and other percussion, handbells, and Orff instruments. Strengthen your rhythmic skills and ensemble playing through guided exercises. Instruments are provided. This is an intergenerational experience and children mature enough to receive instruction are welcome. Instrumental ensembles From time to time, Director Bradfield uses instrumental accompaniment for choir work. He also offers opportunities for small groups of instrumentalists or soloists to present music for the Sunday service. He has begun a regularly rehearsing group of instrumental musicians, including a brass ensemble and a percussion ensemble. Instrumental and vocal people are also encouraged to provide music for the summer services. Dances of Universal Peace Participate in simple, meditative, and joyous circle dances while singing sacred phrases from various traditions. Certified instructors lead participants through this heart-opening, spiritual experience. No dance or singing skills are necessary -- just a willing foot and voice! This is also an intergenerational experience and children who can follow instructions are very welcome. Sing Thing Folks who enjoy a good sing-along are invited to come to "Sing Thing." Instrumental accompanists are welcome also -- we usually have guitars, banjos, tambourines, drums, the occasional ukelele, and other acoustic folk instruments. Beverages and snacks make it a party! The Music Committee guides the vision of the music program at monthly meetings.
