UCE Shared Offerings At the Unitarian Church of Evanston we split our Sunday offering between maintaining our church community and a designated cause or social agency. Church members often suggest causes with which they have a personal connection through their volunteer work or through knowledge of a specific need. Representatives from the causes or agencies often come to tell us about their work. Here are a few examples of the many causes or agencies we have reached out to help: Heifer Project—Heifer animals and training go out to those in need around the world. As UCE’s children have studied world hunger, they have raised money to buy a Heifer International Ark, a collection of animals that will improve the lives of families and children in need. Family Focus Evanston—Teenage mothers and their children receive day care and support and job/school assistance. Teen Living Programs—Assists homeless and runaway youth. Hardist E. Lane Center for Positive Change—This Evanston-based group helps ex-offenders re-enter society and the work force. CLAIM (Chicago Legal Advocacy for Incarcerated Mothers)—Provides legal aid for guardianships to keep children with trusted caregivers instead of the state foster care system. Soup at Six and Hilda’s Place—Evanston-based programs for the homeless. UUA-UUSC Gulf Coast Relief Fund—A Unitarian Universalist Hurricane Katrina relief fund. Our Partner Church in Medgyes Transylvania—We have a long partnership with this Unitarian fellowship. The Ted Fund—This Evanston group helps low-income families send their children to summer camp.
