Choir
Music has been a priority of UCE since the congregation was established in 1891, and choirs have been important to the congregation since the 1950s. Under the current direction of Vickie Hellyer the choir has over 40 members. We sing two Sundays per month at services. Two Sundays during the year are set aside as “Music Sundays,” when the choir, with instrumental accompaniment, leads the service. The choir does not sing during the summer.
Why We Sing:
The choir sings to add meaning to each service and for our own enjoyment. Since we spend time together each week from September-June, we also get to know one another quite well. The Thursday evening rehearsal has historically ended with a social time/snacks (and we will reinstate this when it is safe to do so), and we occasionally get together outside regular choir time. We have a picnic at the end of the church year, and one member regularly offers an evening of Christmas carols at her house in December.
What We Sing:
The choir director selects music that complements the theme of each service. As a result, we sing a variety of music including Classical, Gospel, Spirituals, World Music, Jazz, Pop, Musical Theatre, and music from other Faith Traditions.
