Meet Interim Minister, Rev. Karen Gustafson

Rev. Karen Gustafson is Minister Emerita of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Duluth where she served from 1986-2007. From 2007-2013 she served as Associate Minister at First Unitarian Society Madison WI  when she retired from settled ministry returned to her home on the North Shore of Lake Superior in northern Minnesota with her husband John Gustafson. The retirement did not “take” and from 2014-16  she served as Interim Minister for the Michael Servetus Unitarian Society in Fridley, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. During her active ministry, Karen served as a Social Justice Empowerment facilitator for the UUA Department of Faith and Action conducting workshops in more than a dozen congregations of all sizes. She has also served on the Ministerial Fellowship Committee and as an Adjunct Congregational Consultant with the Prairie Star District and more recently the Mid-America Region. Her special interest is working with personal and congregational transition.

Karen currently lives in Knife River, MN where she enjoys time with her husband, John and various children and grandchildren; consults for the Mid America Region UUA and guides individual Life Review retreats for UU’s in transition.
