Open for Good
March 25, 2016
Why invest in the future of UCE? Some of us, when we first “signed the book,” came from religious experiences far different that what we thought we observed here. Our experiences in the social action milieu may have been minimal at best. Dealing with social justice issues – not even on the horizon. Coming to a place where we could have an open, honest, frank discussion about issues, both religious and secular — no such opportunity. UCE gave us the opportunity to explore our religious beliefs in a free and open forum, without the fear that we were going to be judged as naive or lacking sophistication. What a great place this was and is!
It is a goal we all share — to keep UCE Open for Good. By now, a Visiting Steward has probably contacted you about setting a time to learn more about what you think of our shared experiences at UCE. The VS wants to understand what you love about UCE; what your goals are for UCE’s future; what you might suggest to improve your experience. When that VS calls and asks to set up a visit, please welcome that person and share your thoughts about UCE. Sure, the VS will want to talk about your pledge for the 2016-17 church year, but approach that conversation with a cheerful attitude. Think about all the good that has come into your life as a result of being a member of the Unitarian Church of Evanston. And pledge accordingly, with a smile on your face.
If you’ve completed your Pledge Form and haven’t turned it in, please do as soon as possible so that the Board of Trustees and the ISC can have next year’s budget ready for the congregation to vote on at the May 15 Congregational Meeting.
