Welcome to UCE!
The Unitarian Church of Evanston (UCE) is a member congregation of the Unitarian Universalist Association. Founded in 1891, our congregation has grown to be a community of over 400 members and friends. In service of our mission to nurture the human spirit for a world made whole, we cultivate a community of joy and hope, service and growth, seeking transformation in ourselves and the world. Members of our welcoming and active congregation are active within Evanston and the Chicagoland communities. Our covenant written by Rev. James Vila Blake in 1894 shapes our connection to each other:
Love is the spirit of this church, and service is its law.
This is our great covenant: to dwell together in peace,
to seek the truth in love, and to help one another.
Everyone is welcome, whatever your age, ethnicity, color, gender, sexual orientation, physical challenge, religious background, or political affiliation.

What Unitarian Universalists Believe
We are a faith community grounded in covenant. We are non-creedal and non-doctrinal, meaning that individual members hold a wide variety of beliefs.
Historically, both Unitarianism (meaning that God is one) and Universalism (meaning that no one would be condemned to eternal damnation), come out of Christianity. Today we are a pluralist religious community. Our members include those who identify themselves as humanist, agnostic, atheist, Muslim, Buddhist, Jewish, Christian, Neo-pagan, and “none of the above.” Each person is encouraged to develop their own beliefs in keeping with experience and conscience. Our children (adults, too) are encouraged to think for themselves and to ask questions.
Name Tags & Visitor Form
Name Tags are one way we get to know each other. Please fill out a visitor form at the Welcome Center in the lobby or online and by the next Sunday you should have a name tag in the name tag rack in the lobby. Completing a visitor form will also get you signed up for our newsletter that is emailed out every Friday.
We have rainbow stickers and gender pronoun stickers to add your nametag in the lobby under the name tag rack.
